The Kast off Kinks - Classic Kinks from Kinks musicians who made the music: Mick Avory * Jim Rodford * Ian Gibbons & Dave Clarke
The Kast Off Kinks are not a tribute band! Just ex-members of the real thing getting back together to re-live the good times!
The band comprises long time KINKS members:
Mick Avory (Kink from 1964-1984) on drums who was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1990, Jim Rodford (Kink from 1978-1996) on bass and vocals who in addition to his Kast Off Kinks duties is a current member of The Zombies, co-founded Argent and also did a stint with The Animals, Ian Gibbons (Kink from 1979-1989 / 1992-1996) and current member of Ray Davies' band) on keys and Dave Clarke on guitar and vocals who has worked with Noel Redding, Tim Rose, and members of the Who, Wings, Animals, Beach Boys and Spirit. The band are also sometimes rejoined by former Kinks bassist John Dalton (Kink from 1966-76), who founded the Kast Offs in 1994. The Kast Offs enjoy the endorsement of Ray Davies who has been known to guest with them over the years and who booked them to play his Meltdown Festival in 2011. Their appearance at this distinguished event featured guest appearances from the legendary Robyn Hitchcock and former member of The Jam Bruce Foxton.
They perform over two hours of Kinks tracks, with the first half featuring selections from Arthur, Muswell Hillbillies and Everybody's in Showbiz, and the second half dedicated to hits and rarities.

Bill Wells & Aidan Moffat + RM Hubbert
One of 2011's gems, Aidan and Bill's 'Everything's Getting Older' received rave reviews across the board and featured in many end of year polls. It's a masterpiece, and the live show is unlike any other. Strongly recommended.
So here it is then, 'Everything's Getting Older': Aidan Moffat's first full length collaboration with Bill Wells and it is, in a nutshell, one of the best albums of his career. We've long been harping on about Aidan's skill as a lyricist but with this piece of work you get a real sense that he's really hit his stride: in the youth-obsessed bear pit that is the music industry nowadays, who better to ruminate on the ups and downs of approaching forty than Aidan who delivers a set of songs that are as funny, poignant, filthy and insightful as anything he's ever written.
Over and above Aidan's lyrics, it's the backdrop they're set against that makes this album so memorable: Bill Wells' subtly intricate brand of composing provides the perfect foil for Aidan's observational vignettes - the music for the album's understated centrepiece 'The Copper Top' is a profoundly moving piece of work. With the unsettling surrealism of 'Dinner Time' and the Philip Glass-esque urgency of 'Cages', 'Everything's Getting Older' provides a compellingly melancholy/funny/tender/faithful snapshot of what it feels like marching towards middle-age, casting backwards glances at your youth as you go...
A benchmark album for Aidan in our opinion and one which places him alongside such luminaries as Nick Cave, Tom Waits and Elvis Costello.

DJ Yoda
Duncan Beiny aka DJ Yoda is no ordinary scratch DJ. His seminal 'How To Cut & Paste' series showcased a tongue-in-cheek mixing style that prompted Q Magazine to declare him "one of the ten DJs to see before you die". Originally a hip hop dj, he has been steadily incorporating a myriad music styles into his shows with a view to create exhilarating musical collages, from reggae to drum'n'bass, kuduro to country music - and often at the same time! - concocting an intoxicating blend with one single aim in mind: to get the party going! Trail-blazing into the world of the audio-visual he has pioneered a new artform using cutting edge technology that he has been instrumental in developing to scratch and mix visuals on top of his DJ sets. Drawing from sources as diverse as classic movies, obscure television shows, or viral youtube clips, you can find him cutting up the Indiana Jones theme tune to full on dubstep, or dicing and splicing the Muppet Theme with M.I.A. in amongst the inimitable audiovisual whirlwind that is DJ Yoda.

The Monochrome Set + Wake The President
One of the most important and influential bands to emerge from the post punk scene in the late 70s are back with their original line up. After reuniting for a one off show at Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona in 2011, the band enjoyed themselves so much they decided to do one more UK tour.
Originally formed in 1978 by vocalist Ganesh 'Bid' Seshadri and guitarist Lester Square from The B-Sides (who's singer, Stuart Goddard changed his name to Adam Ant and became pretty popular!), bassist Jeremy Harrington and former Art Attacks drummer J.D. Crowe.
Signed to Rough Trade in 1979, the band released three ace singles, 'He's Frank', 'Eine Symphonie des Grauens' and their signature number, 'Monochrome Set', before Harrington left to be replaced by Andy Warren from Adam & The Ants/The B-Sides.
'Strange Boutique', 'Love Zombies' and 'Eligible Bachelors', between 1980 and 1982, were the only albums by the original line up, released on Virgin/Dindisc and Cherry Red. The band worked extensively with filmmaker Tony Potts throughout this period.
Their witty lyricism, post punk meets sixties rock guitar attacks and strong pop sensibilities, The Monochrome Set have influenced many a future art-rocker, acknowledged as such by The Smiths, The Fire Engines and Orange Juice, let alone modern day pop-starts Franz Ferdinand, The Devine Comedy and Graham Coxon.

There's something about this band. Your humble correspondent has seen thousands of acts over the years but there's definitely something about this York band that stands out.
It's early days but there's a great tune here and there busting to get out; a hint of attitude; a very definite groove and a gang mentality that all the best bands just have to possess.

Po'Girl
Po'Girl have become one of Canada's leading musical exports, weaving sweetness, grit & soul. Seven albums in and they've finally made it to York.
The beauty and mystery of Po’Girl music, a sound that has beguiled fans the world over, springs from the dynamic, improbable, mesmerizing bond shared by its two principal singers and writers, Allison Russell and Awna Teixeira. Hailing from Montreal and Toronto respectively, both women left untenable home situations at fourteen, found music instead of bad ends, and lived to sing the tales. The interplay between these two stunning performers is truly something to behold.
The band spent 3 weeks in January 2010 recording their latest album 'Follow Your Bliss' in Chicago, Illinois with the fantastic Zach Goheen at the helm. 'Follow Your Bliss' was released in April/May 2010 in Europe, and June 2010 in North America.
It seems almost silly and not very interesting to trot out a long, endlessly hyphenated list of the many influences coursing through Po’Girl’s music. Suffice to say it’s 21st Century roots music, urban roots - never derivative, not faithfully aping a beloved tradition. Teixeira and Russell don’t re-hash the old forms, they reshape and reinvigorate them for new ears. Always restless, they write their flashes of sadness, their loss, their good love, their faint dreams of home into songs that matter deeply to them. Like any good art, they are little acts of self-rescue.
Following five successful tours of the UK and Europe over the past 6 years Po’Girl are looking to further enhance their reputation with a short tour during spring of 2012. These will be their only UK appearances until a new CD release tour in 2013.

Late 2002 saw Oli pick up a guitar for the first time. Two and a half years later at age of 15 he was invited to America as the guest of American Blues band Blinddog Smokin'. This first trip saw Oli on the same stage as Buddy Guy and Taj Mahal.
In 2008 Oli was signed to the German Blues label, Ruf Records. Thomas Ruf flew into the UK to see Oli perform and signed him on the spot.
Oli's debut album, OPEN ROAD, was recorded and released in 2008 and received great reviews across the UK and Europe. It was voted the No. 2 Blues album of 2008 by readers of Blues Matters! magazine and it still rides high in the Blues Charts.
The Oli Brown Band was the only UK act to be selected for the 2008 International Blues Convention in Memphis.
While in Memphis Oli was asked by John Fry (the owner of Ardent Studios) to go in and record a live session for them - this session received 1.3 million hits in three weeks. (Ardent Studios have recorded and mixed albums for The White Stripes, Isaac Hayes, Led Zeppelin, R.E.M, The Raconteurs, Stevie Ray Vaughan, BB King...amongst many others.)
Vanquish Guitars became an endorsee of Oli and now produce the Oli Brown Signature guitar (made to the specific requirements that he wants on stage). Hofner, Blackstar, Kustom, Ernie Ball, Whirlwind, T-Rex and Shure all now support and endorse Oli Brown.
2010 saw Oli return to the studio with the legendary producer, Mike Vernon (Fleetwood Mac,
Eric Clapton, John Mayall, Freddie King, David Bowie etc). Mike came out of self imposed retirement to work with Oli after seeing and hearing him on various You Tube videos.
The Mike Vernon produced album, HEADS I WIN TAILS YOU LOSE, was released April 2010 in the UK, Europe and America. The press reception was fantastic -
"The hottest young pistol in British Blues" Mojo
"A British Bluesman to rival Trucks and Bonamassa" Uncut
"Brown's fretwork really stuns" Classic Rock
"His singing voice is compelling" Guitarist
"The more you hear it the more you love it" Properganda
Mojo Magazine and Classic Rock voted HEADS I WIN TAILS YOU LOSE their No. 4 and No. 3 Blues album respectively of 2010.
2011 saw Oli touring in the UK, Europe, New Zealand, Canada and America (with an appearance on American breakfast TV). October and November 2011 saw The Oli Brown Band on a major 25 date UK tour with the legendary John Mayall and at the end of the tour John Mayall invited Oli to be the lead guitarist in his band for the December 2011 Jakarta Blues Festival.
Oli is now writing and recording his third album, "Here I Am" which is planned for release April 2012. The new album will coincide with Oli's headline tour of the UK in April 2012 and Germany in May 2012.

Martin Turner's Wishbone Ash + Stolen Earth
With millions of album sales and concert attendances worldwide, Wishbone Ash's heritage as one of the most enduring and best loved British rock acts is assured.
Wishbone Ash was formed by West Country musicians Martin Turner and Steve Upton, who arrived in London in 1969 to embark on their musical journey. Intent on creating a musical sound that was rich in texture and melody, Martin Turner envisaged the band's innovative harmony-guitar hallmark and guitarists Ted Turner and Andy Powell were recruited via a now legendary Melody Maker advert. The partnership of the original line-up of Wishbone Ash forged a unique musical identity that would produce some of rock music's best loved works and influence numerous successful bands. Wishbone Ash would become synonymous with high quality guitar-driven melodic rock music.
Over forty years on, the enduring music of the classic marks of Wishbone Ash continues to delight audiences worldwide through both live performances and a rich legacy of recorded work that continues to be enjoyed by fans old and new. Classic album releases such as Argus, Pilgrimage, There's the Rub, New England and Live Dates defined the Wishbone Ash sound and have touched the hearts of several generations of music fans. As lead vocalist and key creative force, Martin Turner was central to the critical and commercial success of Wishbone Ash's most revered albums, with his passionate vocal delivery, songwriting ability, keen melodic sense and production values being a key ingredient in the definitive Wishbone Ash sound.
Founding original member Martin Turner continues to perform the band's best loved works with his current line-up. Martin Turner's Wishbone Ash features guitarists Ray Hatfield and Danny Willson, and drummer Dave Wagstaffe. The line-up remains faithful to the original Wishbone Ash blueprint and delivers a show which focuses on material from the classic eras of Wishbone Ash, featuring stage favourites mixed with classic album tracks.
The year of 2010 saw Martin Turner celebrating the 40th anniversary of Wishbone Ash's formation with the highly acclaimed Life Begins tour, which followed hot on the heels of the Argus tour of 2008/09 and appearances on the major Classic Legends of Rock nationwide UK theatre tour. 2010 also saw Martin Turner's Wishbone Ash appearing at the High Voltage festival in London, where they were joined by original Wishbone Ash member Ted Turner. The show was seen by thousands of rock fans and the band's performance was voted as one of the event's highlights by listeners of Planet Rock radio.
2011 sees the release of the Life Begins DVD and CD, filmed and recorded in 2010 and containing a live performance of Wishbone Ash's seminal Argus album (voted 1972 ‘Album of the Year' in music weeklies Melody Maker and Sounds) as well as other Wishbone Ash classics. In addition, Martin Turner publishes, for the first time, his personal memoirs in a forthcoming biographical book, detailing his lifetime in music. Martin Turner's candid style of storytelling makes this an essential read for anyone with an interest in either the story of Wishbone Ash or the workings of the music industry in general.
Martin Turner describes working with his current band as "an extremely rewarding experience on both a musical and personal level, with a positive vibe not unlike the early days of Wishbone Ash. Collectively we have had a great time revisiting many of the classics from the vintage days of Wishbone Ash, recreating the essence of many songs, some of which have hardly ever been performed live, and reminding us all of the diversity contained in the Wishbone Ash back catalogue. I am confident that we have compiled a show that will please all true Wishbone connoisseurs."

The Miserable Rich
This Brighton based five piece have spent the last four years perfecting a string-led, chamber pop sound unparalleled in today's bustling British musical landscape. Heavily influenced by the classic Colin Blunstone album, 'Say You Don't Mind', their blend of cello, violin, upright bass, piano and guitar is quintessentially English and has been honed to perfection on new album 'Miss You In The Days'.
Ever since their debut single was an iTunes Single Of The Week and received heavy radio play, The Miserable Rich have been darlings of the UK music press. They scored the award winning short film 'The Girl Is Mime' which was shown at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival, have performed sessions for Radio 4's Loose Ends and God's Own Jukebox, Mark Lamarr's Radio 2 show, and have toured the length and breadth of the British Isles and also supported Mark Lanegan and Isobel Campbell across Europe.
In 2010, they holed themselves up in a stately home in Norwich to write and record their third album. Blickling Hall, the haunted ancestral home of the Boleyn family, provided the setting, and they spent February 2011 putting together the tracks for 'Miss You In The Days'.

JAY BRANNAN
Singer/songwriter Jay Brannan returns to the UK!
Jay's much anticipated sophomore full-length as-yet-unnamed album will be released end of March but the single, and video, “Beautifully” is out Jan 16 and showcases a remarkable storytelling talent, sharing the plight of a person falling for a close friend whose attraction is just platonic. The track was produced by Grammy-winner David Kahne (Regina Spektor, Paul McCartney, The Bangles, Lana Del Rey etc) who adds an element of instrumental texture to Jay’s songwriting, hinting at a slightly new direction.
With a devout online fan community (thanks to a self-described Internet-addiction and a serious case of insomnia) Jay couldn’t wait to share some new music and recently leaked the track “Greatest Hits” from the new album, you can see it here http://bit.ly/orHYSJ.
With sell-out shows already in London and the bigger cities, the buzzcut Texan is rapidly establishing himself as an independent voice a la Ani DiFranco, or the male Joni Mitchell.
Take your pick, but Jay melts the cool surfer dudeness of Jack Johnson with the piercing and plaintive Nick Drake. Our ever deprecating hero and his butter-wouldn’t-melt delivery bonds his ventures in to witty anecdotes and two-way repartee. No mute singer-songwriter staring at the ground going on here!
For the broken-hearted whilst tearing out the rest of you, Brannan’s distinctive, melancholy but sharp tenor may well soundtrack your next break-up. And the getting back together …

The Lemonheads - It's A Shame About Ray Tour 2012
THE LEMONHEADS have just announced an extensive US and UK tour for later this year where the Evan Dando-led three piece will be performing their classic 1992 album, IT'S A SHAME ABOUT RAY, from beginning to end. Joining Dando on this tour will be guitarist Josh Lattanzi (The Candles) and drummer Brian Nolan (American Hi-Fi).
It's A Shame About Ray was released in 1992 and was The Lemonheads' second album for Atlantic Records. The album featured the trio - Evan Dando (guitar, vocals), David Ryan (drums) and Juliana Hatfield (bass, backing vocals) - breezing through 13 songs in just under 30 minutes, including the title track, "My Drug Buddy," "The Turnpike Down" and a romping cover of the Simon and Garfunkel classic "Mrs. Robinson."
Rhino Records re-released a collector's version of the classic album with bonus tracks and a DVD in 2007 for the US and now the UK will get their chance thanks to the Edsel imprint of the UK - based Demon Music Group later this fall.

The 2nd Annual Fox's Den Fest
Following last year's excellent event, which raised much-needed funds to help keep The Fox's Den Show on air on Vixen 101, the Community Radio Station for the Western Wolds of East Yorkshire, it seemed daft not to do it again! There will be live music, an excellent range of real ales and a BBQ.
They are looking for acoustic acts to perform 30 minute slots and would also like to bring to the good people of York some acts that who are new to playing in York or rarely play there. Unfortunately, due to space constraints they don't have room for full bands.
If you would like to play at this event, please contact them!!

HADOUKEN!
Hadouken! make a dramatically swift return with their brand new single, Mecha Love, released on their own Surface Noise label on October 18, available on iTunes. Produced by the latest leading lights from the Ram Records stable, fast-rising drum and bass duo Xample And Lomax, Mecha Love is a sleek melodic powerhouse that represents another huge leap forward for Hadouken! as well as a mouth-watering taster for their third album. That album's currently under construction with Xample And Lomax at the controls and is due in early 2012.
The band's second album, 'For The Masses', reached the top 20 earlier in the year and Hadouken! rightfully earned a reputation as a live act not to be missed after an intense run of major festival appearances over the summer, including Radio 1's Big Weekend, Carling Reading and Leeds, Underage and Relentless NASS.
Hadouken! are ready to destroy the UK once more and, with exciting new material to showcase, their latest run of shows look set to exceed all expectations. Following their headline tour, Hadouken! joined forces with drum & bass giants Pendulum, as the main support on their UK arena tour.

Ian Prowse (Pele and Amsterdam) The Best of tour
Merseyside hero Ian Prowse has formed two succesful bands 'Amsterdam' and 'Pele'. These days Ian and Amsterdam are a 7-piece riotous ensemble who will spend 2012 promoting 'The Best of Ian Prowse'. The album contains 8 Pele classics, 9 Amsterdam as well as duets with Elvis Costello and Christy Moore and 3 brand new tunes. The shows will reflect Ian's entire career.
The band are aiming to better 2008 which saw them duet with Costello on EMI Records, storm Glastonbury and release the Arm in Arm album which ended up being voted 14th best ever album out of Liverpool by the local press, which when you consider the Beatles released 10 is some feat!
Ian's most famous hit song 'Does this train stop on Merseyside?' (previous single 'The Journey' hit number 32 in the UK charts) was John Peels second favourite tune, John would regularly be too emotional to speak on the radio after playing it.
The song itself got a further lease of life as one of the centre pieces of Irish legend Christy Moores latest album which spent 5 weeks at the top spot in his home country.
Ian's first successful band Pele were a huge live draw in the early 1990's and despite only scoring 6 minor hits in the UK managed to chart in Portugal, Holland, Germany and even hit the number 1 spot in South Africa. The famous primary coloured Pele T shirts were everywhere at the time.
Ian and Amsterdam's Springsteen-esque live show has wowed the Echo Arena, as well as Glastonbury, and earned them a high profile fan club from Mick Jones, Bob Harris, Chris Addison and Miles Hunt.

BOW WOW WOW
Oh come on, we’ve had all the other punk bands passing through York in various states of repair and disfunction. Some have been tremendous value and some … er … not. But this is the one we all wanted to see, yeah?
Formed in 1980 by Malcolm McLaren, and fronted by then-jailbait Annabella Lwin, head-shaved in to a mohican and posing nude on the album sleeve. Seems tame now but way back then … VERY controversial.
Fortunately, the lovely Annabella has stood the test of time, just as BWW’s mash-up of Afro and Latino beats, 50’s rock-n-roll and spaghetti western soundtrack. All packaged up in complex crisp pop with a great big smile.
You want candy? You gotta go wild in the country, first!

Simone Felice Group
Simone Felice is a celebrated American songwriter, author, poet and founding member of The Felice Brothers and more recently The Duke & The King. The Felice Brothers have garnered international acclaim, earning them an inarguable place in the Great American Songbook. Over the group’s history, Simone has been one of it’s key lyricists, writing and co-writing some of the band's most beloved songs. At the request of iconic record producer Rick Rubin, Simone flew to California in 2008 to play drums on I and Love and You by The Avett Brothers. Written and recorded in a cabin in the Catskill Mountains TheDuke & The King’s 2009 debut album, Nothing Gold Can Stay, received critical acclaim, being hailed as one of the most haunting and honest albums of the year. 2010's follow up Long Live The Duke & The King has been similarly praised. In autumn 2011 Simone signed to Reveal Records. The label will release his debut solo album in Spring 2012 and this includes a single with Mumford & Sons.
"Simone Felice has the poetic gifts and fearless aesthetic to rank among the all-time greats, from Cohen to Cave" The Telegraph
