Swan Lake
Moscow City Ballet makes a welcome return to the UK following a sensational 2010-2011 season which included sell-out performances and rave reviews.
Performing the dazzling Swan Lake on Sunday 5 and Monday 6 February next year, audiences can not only marvel at the perfection of its corps de ballet but witness the excellent technique and grace of principal dancers Alevtina Lapshina and Liliya Oryekhova. The epic story of Prince Siegfried and his love for Odette, who tricked by the evil sorcerer Von Rothbart and his daughter Odile would rather die together then live apart, is performed beautifully to the familiar score by Tchaikovsky.
Founded by Victor Smirnov-Golovanov in 1988, Moscow City Ballet is one of Russia’s most successful and popular touring ballet companies, highly admired for its distinctive style, exciting choreography and exceptionally gifted dancers.
“The dancers are elegant, superbly rehearsed and very savvy...The principals finished with a dazzling flourish and justifiably brought the house down.” Sunday Express
Moscow City Ballet will be accompanied on tour by the Moscow City Ballet Orchestra who will provide a dramatic soundtrack to this magical season of dance.

the mambas
The Mambas are an exciting 3 piece band bringing the sounds of the sixties to life! Self contained with guitar, bass and drums and with their own lighting show, The Mambas guarantee to bring the memories flooding back and to have you on the dance floor in no time. The Mambas consist of three seasoned performers who pride themselves in always giving value for money and in constantly looking to build on an already impressive repertoire of classic sixties songs. A mutual love of the sixties sound - especially for those bands using close harmonies such as The Everly Brothers - originally brought the band members together. Glenn (rhythm guitar/vocals), Phil (bass guitar/vocals) and Steve (drums) have created a solid sound which is further enhanced by vocal harmonies.

BABYBIRD
Babybird, aka Stephen Jones, has announced details of the release of a new single, Can't Love You Anymore through Unison on Monday January 20th 2012.
The single is taken from his 7th studio long-player, The Pleasures of Self Destruction, which is set for release on Monday October 24th 2011. The album was recorded with Grammy-nominated producers Bruce Witkin & Ryan Dorn.
Babybird have sold over 2 million records since the mid-90s having started writing songs and recording home demos as part of an experimental theatre group in Sheffield - his first collection, I Was Born A Man, was released in 1995 and 4 further homespun recordings were released in the same year - Bad Shave, Fatherhood, The Happiest Man Alive and Dying Happy. All were in the N.M.E. top 10 chart.
Babybird would later sign to Echo Records and reach number 3 in the U.K.charts with You're Gorgeous. The album, Ugly Beautiful, also went gold.
Stephen Jones has written 3 novels, and is writing a fourth - A Limited Capacity For Wonder. He has also recorded music under his own name and the moniker of Death of the Neighbourhood.
Babybird released their last album, Ex-Maniac in 2009. Also produced by Bruce Witkin and Ryan Dorn, the album featured Johnny Depp who also directed the memorable video to the single Unlovable, which included the renowned English actor Stephen Graham. Johnny also plays on Jesus Stag Night Club on the new album.

We Could Be Astronauts + one way street
Taking inspiration from artists such as Zeppelin and Soundgarden, We Could Be Astronauts have turned their influences into a modern day rock monster.
Formed from the embers of The Seahorses (Squires post Stone Roses outfit) and Hijak Oscar (Channel 4 Orange Unsigned finalists) amongst others, their astronomical performances are already receiving high praise.
Energetic front man Robert Hughes dominates the stage like a man possessed leaving a trail of carnage in his wake. Face-melting, riffy guitars perfectly compliment the relentless rhythm machine to form an all encompassing rock beast.
This is definitely a band not to be missed.
“The personal highlight of the early action on the Duke's Stage comes from We Could Be Astronauts. In their red and black combo outfits, they instantly get the crowd rocking with a blistering classic metal sound. Rob Hughes' vocals are on top form, equally channelling the spirits of Robert Plant and Eddie Vedder. The fast-paced raw energy of tracks like the bowdlerised 'Messed Up, Corroded, Broke Down, Exploded' (family festival, remember?) and 'The Catastrophist' gain them the loudest cheers of the day.” - Galtres 2011 Review Sphere Mag

The Guns N Roses Experience + Scissorkick
Early every February we have a massive rock gig as some of the staff at The Ringside and members of local band Scissorkick have birthdays around this time, and lets face it it doesn't take a lot of persuading for everyone to get in the party mood :)
Headliners this year are the UKs top Guns And Roses tribute the Guns N Roses Experience who come with some great recommendations from people who have seen them live. Infact they havn't played Hull for a couple of years and last time they did they packed out the Polar Bear. This year as well as playing The Ringside (which is highlight enough in itself) they have also scored the headline spot on the main stage at the massive Farmyard Motorbike Rally in Lincolnshire.
Support comes from Hull's number one party band and birthday boys Scissorkick, once seen, never forgotten who headlined last years Dirty Gerty Rally at Dene Park as well as playing at several other bike rallys. They are also this year finishing of the Sunkfest Festival with a bang.

An artist who has received Ivor Novello, Grammy, BASCAP awards along with a flotilla of gold and platinum records, really needs very little introduction. His bands include Visage, Ultravox and the most famous group in music history Band Aid for which he wrote Do They Know its Christmas with Bob Geldof. Over recent years Midge Ure has continued to tour extensively solo, with his own band and with the reformed Ultravox and on this tour he presents an intimate acoustic evening combining a collection of his own classic songs, stories and some of the songs that inspired him

The Smiths Ltd + Red Chevrons + Black Lit City
The Smiths Ltd was formed in February 2009 by Smiths obsessed Alex Gaskell (guitar), Andy Crook (Bass) and Keith Partington (drums).
We realised that we needed a superb front man and started an extensive 4-month search to find the perfect Morrissey. After a piece in the Manchester Evening News and a Channel M and Rock Radio interview, Johnny Turner heard our plea and came to audition. As obsessive as we were about getting the sound right and bearing an uncanny vocal and physical resemblance to Morrissey, Johnny completed The Smiths Ltd line-up in June 2009. After 5 months of rehearsals we played our first gig in October 2009 to a rapturous audience and we haven't looked back since.
Being the ONLY Smiths tribute band from and based in Manchester, UK we also have a unique selling point and an authenticity that is hard to beat. The band also uses the same guitars, bass, amps and drum kit live that the Smiths used on their very last tour.
It's unlikely that the Smiths will ever play live again and certainly not with the passion and energy of that brief period between 1983 and 1987. The Smiths Ltd are the closest you will get to experiencing that live charge of Morrissey, Marr and Co on stage.
The Smiths Ltd - Johnny, Alex, Andy and Keith.

NIK TURNER'S SPACE RITUAL + heather findlay duo
Space Ritual claim to embody the true spirit of Hawkwind and, looking at the line-up, few could argue as apart from eccentric, innovative and enigmatic Hawkwind founder Nik Turner, the band also features another founder member, guitarist Mick Slattery, original drummer Terry Ollis, early keyboard player Thomas Crimble as well as bassist Jerry Richards who played guitar for Hawkwind in the 90's. A good start then …
It gets better. Back in the 70s, there was the lovely Stacia and in keeping with tradition we now have the petite, nimble and attractive Miss Angel, multiple costume changes and all.
However, this is very definitely not a pensionable bunch of old chaps reliving their (and our!) youth, this is a full-on two hours-plus choc full of classics including of course Brainstorm, Sonic Savages, Steppenwolf, Master Of The Universe and Silver Machine. Complete with effects, projections and lots of dry ice to take you the Space Rock Dimension, reliving the dawn of psychedelia.
This is a fantastic show and tickets will be at a premium, don’t delay!

ANYONE is welcome to come and perform, from 20:30 onwards!
So, Mojito's is finally about to stop being Mojito's.

Anyways, they're going to go down to Mojito's on Saturday Feb 11, with a PA and some instruments, and they're inviting anyone to come along and join in. Bring along an acoustic guitar, or borrow one, or read a poem, or do some stand-up - honestly, the stage is yours. Do what you like.
Invite your friends, your families, your worst enemies - come one, come all, and anyone's welcome to get up and have a go.

basement presents CLUB SMITH + IO + PHONETICS
“Credible indie pop” was how Leeds and Reading festival described Club Smith. A band hunky enough to woo support tours with Kaiser Chiefs, Shed Seven, Pigeon Detectives and The Sunshine Underground. Also a band brandishing the pheromones pungent enough to swoon radio plays from Steve Lamacq (6music), Tom Robinson (6music), John Kennedy (XFM) and Huw Stephens (Radio 1). Expect, as Tom Robinson put it “Independent music new-minted with freshness and conviction."
"Club Smith came like an adrenaline jab in the arm of my flagging faith in indie guitar bands. This is independent music new-minted with freshness and conviction" Tom Robinson, BBC 6music (For Music Week)
"Leeds four-piece Club Smith make danceable pop with a nod to the past whilst staying relevant and original, definitely one for fans of Yeasayer or any credible electro pop." Leeds and Reading Festivals
“Rabble-rousing, blast of post-punk and an impassioned call to arms like it was written with bustling crowds in mind” Drowned in Sound
“Club Smith, the latest in a long string of ‘dead good’ (to use a Yorkshire phrase) bands busting out of the Leeds scene” Artrocker

Mexican Blackbird were formed in york in late 2009 from the jam sessions held every thursday at the fulford arms,Nev Lacy and Mike Weaver have been playing in bands together since school but never really pushed it until recently,by sheer accident they met John Crosby who actually came by to fill in for Nev as he couldn't get time off work to host a jam,the guys hit it off well but lacked a drummer, after playing a few songs Wayne Allen (former ouse brothers/hard lines)drummer was persuaded to buy another kit and Mexican Blackbird was born, they all have a varied taste in music and it shows in their set, they play anything from country rock (Black Crowes/Blackberry Smoke) to Rock Standards (Whitesnake/Thin Lizzy) even throwing in some alternative for good measure (Fratelli's Green Day). they're very approachable guys who like to drink, like our music and just generally like to have fun

SUBSTANSE presents N3GUS (Hospital records / Spearhead)
SUBSTANSE returns for it's first event of the year and were starting as we mean to go on with N3GUS (Hospital Records / Spearhead):
N3GUS has recently been making his presence felt in more ways than one within the D&B scene he is now ready to conquer. Having earned his stripes running the Bounce record label and nights of the same name in Norwich, and DJing under the Scheme moniker, N3GUS returned to Bristol in 2006, where he’d lived some years before, and set about racking his career up a notch under a new name. Quickly re-introduced to Bristol’s bubbling bass community by D&B/dubstep legend and old friend Jakes, N3GUS drew immediate inspiration from the city’s rich pool of creative talent and found himself under the tutorage of one of D&B’s biggest stars, TC. Success soon followed, and 2011 saw N3GUS drop two tracks (‘Swag Bag’ and ‘Fill Your Boots) for one of dance music’s biggest brands – the mighty Hospital Records - and deliver a 12” for one of D&B’s most credible imprints, Spearhead. Now currently busy working on tracks with some of the finest MCs that Bristol has to offer, including Buggsy, Jakes and Carasel, and with more releases already lined up for Spearhead and TC’s genre-busting Don’t Play imprint, N3GUS’s career as a producer is already firing. However, it’s behind the decks where N3GUS really shines, as his sets over the last year at many of the enormous Hospitality parties nationwide have proven time and again. “My main passion, the thing that switches me on, is going out to a club and DJing – I’ve always loved DJing, and that’s what I consider myself to be first,” N3GUS says. “I just wanna be me,” he continues “I don’t care how famous I get, I’ve got no ambitions to take over charts; I just wanna do what I do and make the music as well as I can. It’s been my life-long passion, now’s the time to make it pay...”
Room 2 is hosted by York House Association, with special guests Jaxx in the Box and Rozzle Kicks. We'll be playing anything house-like that we like that we hope you like, so come down and like us.

REVEREND AND THE MAKERS
Sheffield legend and super-hero (and some say still not receiving due credit) Jon McLure is still furiously political but on his own admission not labouring the point anymore!
Latest album produced by Jason Cox, James Dring and … gasp … Youth; this special date precedes an upcoming tour with no less than Noel Gallagher.
Defiantly individual and inventive, unpretentious and forthright, nothing this indie/pop/dance ‘collective’ ever does can be safely dropped in to any category other than brilliantly diverse and, of course, unmissable
First spotted at Fibbs in October 2006, welcome back Jon. Legend.

Nancy Kerr & James Fagan
One of the most established and respected duos on the folk scene, Nancy Kerr and James Fagan are winners of the 2011 BBC Radio 2 Folk Award for Best Duo (and previous winners of 2003 Best Duo and 2000 Horizon Award.) As well as being great exponents of their instruments (fiddle, viola and guitar-bouzouki) both are regarded as fine and influential singers. 2010 marked the 15th year of this electrifying duo. In that time they have toured full-time and headlined festivals throughout the UK, Ireland, Europe, Australia, Japan and Canada. Wherever they play, Kerr and Fagan make new friends and fans, as their love of live performance is tangible and affirming. Consistently great live shows and five highly respected albums, plus their recent collaborations with Robert Harbron and The Melrose Quartet, have cemented their reputation as one of the classiest acts in acoustic music.

RICH ROBINSON (BLACK CROWES) AND BAND
Familiar to millions of fans as guitarist/songwriter/co-founder of The Black Crowes, the quintessential Stonesesque greasy blues and Southern rock template that debuted in 1990 with Shake Your Money Maker. Their quadruple-platinum mixture of defiance and joy was personified with "Jealous Again" and their version of Otis Redding's "Hard to Handle - Rich’s solo work is no less a potent musical statement. Sharing a birthday with Bob Dylan, the guitarist’s guitarist names Nick Drake, Neil Young, Alex Chilton as major influences as well as top flight bluesmen Lightnin' Hopkins and Furry Lewis.
Socrates said a life unexamined wasn’t worth living, but sometimes life is going so well that you could be forgiven for going with the flow. But life will catch up with you in time, as it did for Rich Robinson. Before he was 25, he had fame, fortune, a beautiful wife and home, everything. But in the blink of an eye, much of it was gone.
“I was living this life that was askew. My relationships with the people that were supposed to be my closest seemed damaged. My marriage was not a good fit we weren’t facing up to that” he says, “And though I love my brother, my working environment was challenged. Nothing was working like it should have been, but by many people’s standards, it was a dream come true.”
But through his solo works, his musical gifts have propelled a major career fully intact, but joined this time by a more sentient, holistic outlook: that of a father, a son, a husband, a spiritual being, a musician, fully integrated and more comfortable than ever in his body, mind and soul.

DAVE HUGHES + Emma Hallows + Helen Chambers + Jonny Gill
Dave Hughes is a folk singer, originally from just outside Glasgow but now residing in Dundee. He has been playing live for 5 years, and in this time has travelled up and down the UK many times and played with many influential acts.
Recently signed to London DIY label "Corporate Records" for third album to be released in mid-2011. Album will feature 12 original songs, and be backed up with a full UK tour in early August.
In the past has played with, amongst others, Frank Turner, Chris T-T, Ricky Warwick (ex-The Almighty, now of Thin Lizzy), Jonah Matranga, and The Indelicates.
Influences are mainly the top three of Springsteen, Phil Ochs and Mischief Brew, but growing up listening to Punk rock in the form of Rancid, The Clash, The Pogues and Green Day have shaped it somewhat too.

Over the Rainbow
Over The Rainbow, the tale of Eva Cassidy starring Sarah Jane Buckley (Hollyoaks) as Eva Cassidy, Maureen Nolan as Barbara Cassidy and Brian Fortuna (Strictly Come Dancing) as Danny Cassidy, is a compelling award-winning musical which tells the life story of this legendary artist, following Eva's life through dramatic scenes and stunning live renditions of her music including a haunting interpretation of 'Somewhere over the Rainbow'.
Over the Rainbow is a compelling award-winning Musical, which tells the Life Story of this legendary artist, following Eva's life through dramatic scenes and stunning live renditions of her music including a haunting interpretation of Somewhere over the Rainbow.
This Award Winning Show has received plaudits from the Eva Cassidy Band and members of her family and contains projection and original footage from Eva Cassidy's life, from an early age to her first professional gig aged 18, her first meeting with her boyfriend and mentor Chris Biondo, a rabble-rousing rendition and recording at Blues Alley with Chuck Brown and culminating in her poignant and tragic death.
Before she died at the tender age of 33, she was unknown outside Washington, USA but within 2 years, she was discovered by Terry Wogan who promoted her music to the top of the album charts in the UK and now Europe, Australia and throughout the World.
A talented and world-class cast of actors and musicians recreate her original arrangements and recordings which have received accolades from Mick Fleetwood and Sting and tributes from Nora Jones, Katie Melua and Chris De Burgh.
This show pays a genuine and heartfelt tribute to a true artist who was not interested in fame and fortune, but wanted nothing more than to create beautiful music.
From it's first performance in 2004, Over the Rainbow, has moved people immensely with sell-out performances and standing ovations throughout the UK and Europe.
This is more than the Life Story of Eva Cassidy which is an absolute must-see for all Eva Cassidy fans, it's a show for anyone who's lost someone they love.

Katherine Jenkins
Katherine Jenkins, the record-breaking multi platinum selling mezzo-soprano, has announced a date at the York Barbican next February, as part of her Daydream tour.
Making her debut appearance at York Barbican on Wednesday 15 February, Katherine will be performing up close and personal for her first theatre tour in three years.
Katherine is the first British classical crossover artist to have two number one albums in the same year and her third album, Living in a Dream, reached number 4 in the pop album charts. This album contained the moving cover of Dolly Parton’s I Will Always Love You.
This tour coincides with the release of her latest album, Daydream, which debuted at Number 6 in the pop charts. The album is her most personal to date drawing together music and songs she loves from across classical, traditional, folk and easy pop that have inspired her over the course of her life.
The Daydream tour will also see Katherine perform some of her best-known songs that she has performed and recorded over her last seven albums including tracks from her debut album Premiere through to her best selling album Believe. Katherine says “I had an amazing time on my first arena tour but Daydream is a very intimate album and I wanted my tour to reflect that. It's a chance for my fans to see me up close and personal in some of the UK's most beautiful theatres”.

SCHOLARS
Having spent their formative years listening to bands like Braid, Hundred Reasons, The Dismemberment Plan, The Faint and Tears for Fears, when Scholars write songs they tend to leave traces of influences all over the place, but hope what they end up with just sounds like Scholars.
After UK tours in May / July this year and shows with letlive. The Computers, Young
Guns, Spycatcher, And So I Watch You From Afar, Francesqa, The Xcerts, Max Raptor and Gay For Johnny Depp amongst others, theyre once again hitting the road in November.
Described as "At The Drive In covering The Smiths" and by Josh Franceschi of You Me At Six as "my favourite band in the UK right now, period" they've built up a reputation as an incendiary live band.

Spaghetti Western Orchestra
The magnificent five are riding into town!
Armed with over 100 instruments, these brilliant musicians perform a fistful of Ennio Morricone classics from the movies that made Clint Eastwood a star. The stunning soundtracks include The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, For A Few Dollars More and Once Upon a Time in The West.
This ingenious gang of comic maestros underscore these iconic compositions with hilarious sound effects... blowing on bottles, crushing cornflakes, 'playing' coathangers, apples, squeaky toys, rubbergloves, bicycle pumps, nailclippers and many more - recreating every punch up, gunshot, and jangling spur that define the gun slinging west.
Audiences across the world have been amazed and enthralled by this international sensation. Not to be missed.
**** 'Take five multi-talented, unashamedly theatrical Australians and let them loose on 100 instruments and you have some idea of Spaghetti Western Orchestra. A joyous celebration'
London Evening Standard
'That the musicians perform with the enormous gravity of a Mozart symphony only serves to make this extraordinary show all the funnier'
The Guardian, UK
'Stirring music expertly played, with a frosting of quirky humour… an inspired show'

ABIGAIL'S PARTY
Naloxone Theatre Ensemble
Proudly present
Mike Leigh’s Classic play
ABIGAIL’S PARTY - In 1970's suburbia, Beverly and her long suffering husband Laurence are hosting a drinks party for their neighbours. There is plenty of alcohol, an array of cheese-pineapple savoury bites and olives, and Jose Feliciano on the record player. But as prejudices are unmasked, futile points are scored and tempers flare, the evening seems headed for disaster...
It is the third play Director Tom Wilson has directed and this particular Mike Leigh classic has been a long time dream for him to get to grips with. “I remember seeing it on television all those years ago and I was astonished with not just how irreverent it was but also how vindictive and hysterical the characters became as the evening wore on”. Tom ; “It is very much akin to a no holds barred English version of ‘Who’s afraid of Virginia Woolf”; adds Tom. The show will be three quarters in the round and also there will be some exciting street performances of specific scenes from the play in order to raise the profile and increase tickets sales, so watch out for these around York town centre late in January early February. The street performances will be on Saturdays at Exhibition Square 28th January; Parliament St 4Th February, Kings Square and St Samson’s Square on11th February.

GROUPLOVE + two wounded birds
When the members of Grouplove met in Crete it was like a dream, each going for their own independent reasons but gravitating towards each other and discovering a unified sound; a merging of richly narrated, intricate songs with anthemic classic pop production.
Debut album Never Trust A Happy Song is brawny and ecstatic, filled with ambitious and expansive tunes underscored by crisp percussion and killer harmonies. “The variety in the musical taste and writing styles of each member really makes each of our songs unique,” Ryan explains. “The honest, open-minded process we go through in rehearsal and in the studio brings the songs home and gives them the 'Grouplove' sound.”
The fantasy has become very real; one of the bands of 2012.

Spector + DAVID'S LYRE + IO
After the release of the widely acclaimed 'Never Fade Away' and fan favourite 'What You Wanted' comes Spector's third and final 7" in a trilogy of singles for Dalston based Luv Luv Luv records: 'Grey Shirt & Tie.'
Inspired by a seemingly fated, chance encounter between lead singer Fred MacPherson, and a childhood sweetheart whilst shopping in Primark , ‘Grey Shirt & Tie' is Spector at their most haunting and minimal, touched by the production greatness of Craig Silvey (Arcade Fire, Arctic Monkeys, The Horrors).
In keeping with their previous 2 releases. Spector eschew a B-side , instead favouring a remix of the A-side, which on this occasion comes from esteemed friends and neighbours, The Big Pink. The release will also be accompanied by a stunning video from Swedish director, Mattias Johansson.
With ‘Grey Shirt & Tie', Spector round off a phenemonal year that has taken them from a sold out debut show in a Stoke Newington basement in January, to their own headline national dates, 'Spectour 1', in October via some storming performances at their own sold out shows at Efes, the Barfly and the Shacklewell Arms and standout performances at festivals such as Field Day, Latitude, Reading and Leeds, and supporting the likes of the Killers, Florence +the Machine and the Vaccines.
As 2011 culminates with their first foray into Europe and a headline London show at Bethnal Green Working Mens club, next year will see the release of Spector's debut album. With major, international festivals and supports already in place, 2012 is set to be the year Spector take their 21st century torch songs to a wider stage.

The Diary of Anne Frank
Anne Frank's world famous diary charts two years of her life from 1942 to 1944. This extraordinary personal account of hope, courage and survival has united and touched people world wide. Whilst hidden from the German Nazis, with her Jewish family, in a secret annex in Amsterdam, Anne documented her hopes, frustrations and day to day experiences in confinement. Anne's wry observations of herself and her companions have been dramatised in this stunning play, evoking all the original sentiments of a young girl's dramatic and heartbreaking diary, written in the most hostile of environments.
From the same partnership that produced last spring's sell out production of To Kill A Mockingbird comes another classic text.

TYR + Ravenage + maelstrom
TYR - What more fitting way to end the Jorvik Viking Festival than with Faroese Viking metal band Tyr, making a long overdue return to the UK for this one-off show. Unmistakably creating true Viking metal, every song is based on Faroese or Norwegian lore, riveted in the garb of the folk metal genre. Over to guitarist and singer Heri Joensen, “Traditional music dating back to the Vikings is not preserved anywhere else in the world, not even Iceland, but is passed on here in an oral tradition and is alive and well. That is what we build our music on and draw great inspiration from”.
On the back of this rumoured, now confirmed, appearance, interest in this event has been huge. Early ticket purchase highly recommended!!

Nearly Dan in concert - The Spirit & Sound of Steely Dan
Less tribute and more homage, Nearly Dan is saviour to the growing legions of Dan fans, desperate to hear the meticulously crafted grooves and allusive lyrical style of Donald Fagen & Walter Becker. Nearly Dan's approach is faithful, though not reverential, and relaxed but as tight as their namesakes. They bring their own unique spirit and spontaneous humour to every concert.
2012 celebrates three major anniversaries…
40 years since the release of the first Steely Dan album “Can’t buy a Thrill”, featuring the hits
“Do it Again” and “Reelin’ in the years”… 30 years since the release of Donald Fagen’s classic solo masterpiece “The Nightfly” and 15 years since Nearly Dan were formed.
The ten piece Nearly Dan promise all the Steely Dan favourites in a two hour-plus show, featuring tracks from the groove of Countdown to Ecstasy to the super cool of celebrated albums The Royal Scam. Aja and Gaucho.
A real treat for all music lovers and an unmissable concert for any aspiring musician young or old.
Celebrating 3 decades of STEELY DAN.
Donald Fagen and Walter Becker have created some of the most influential music of the pop era. Inspired arrangements and witty, often biting, lyrics combine to make this some of the most distinctive music ever to grace the turntable, with hits such as Reelin’ in the Years, Do It Again, Rikki Don't Lose That Number, Deacon Blues, Peg and FM. culled from their seven platinum albums issued between 1972 and 1980.
They reunited in the early 90s and toured throughout the decade, releasing multi-Grammy winner Two Against Nature in 2000 and its acclaimed follow-up Everything Must Go in 2003. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.

Hyena Lounge Comedy Club Mike Gunn & Seann Collins
Mike Gunn’s history is as interesting and entertaining as his comedy. A misspent youth and a series of grim jobs cultivated his cynical outlook on life and a perverse desire led him to the world of stand-up. A self-confessed pessimist, he describes himself as “not a natural choice for a career in laughter”. He has a rare ability to walk close to the line of what audiences find acceptable and yet still remain likable and funny. His reputation for being a bit unfriendly, a touch dark and even morose is really not true. In real life he’s loving, warm and philanthropic. Just a bit misunderstood.
.
Early in his career Mike was supporting the likes of Jo Brand and Alan Davies. He now headlines at all the top comedy venues in the UK and is rapidly reaching cult status on the circuit. He has performed internationally, taking his talent to Hong Kong, Ireland, Holland, Germany, Switzerland, New Zealand, and Saudi Arabia and to Australia at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, where he completed a five-week sell-out season. He also had the dubious honour of being the first comic to ever play in Kuantan, East Malaysia and recently entertained the troops in the Falkland Islands.
Mike has also taken two solo shows to the Edinburgh Festival. His first performance saw him adopt the character of a funeral director in his show ‘Good Grief’ for which he received rave reviews. His follow up show at the festival was the provocative show: “Uncut”. A departure from straight stand-up, this took a comedic look at drug addiction and recovery.
Television appearances include Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow (BBC1), Harry Hill’s TV Burp (ITV), Al Murray’s sit-com ‘Time Gentlemen Please’ (SKY), The Comedy Store (Comedy Central), Live At Jongleurs (CH5), and The Gas (CH4). He is a regular on the Sky Poker channel. He has also been a contributor for The Guardian. He has written for Time Out, The List, The 11 O’clock Show (CH4) and even Match of The Day Magazine.

Benjamin Francis Leftwich
At just 21 years of age, Ben’s song-writing has a complex quizzical innocence, echoing the enchanting wordplay of Feist and the delicate elegance of Elliott Smith. Ben’s new album Last Smoke Before The Snowstorm follows on from the success of 2010‘s A Million Miles Out EP, which have placed him as one of the most exciting upcoming talents in the UK. The success of the the EP led Jo Whiley to make lead track, Atlas Hands, one of her tracks of 2010. His on-line success includes over 1,000,000 views on YouTube. Pictures led to backing from Radio 1 and XFM with the title track awarded Zane Lowe’s Hottest Record in the World and Greg James’s ROTW.

The very last Sunday Sounds of the Estuary at Ringside
Our very last Sunday Sounds of the Estuary gig and I think we would be the last gig at Ringside under the present owners. We are now looking for a new home.
Anna and Wayne have been running the Ringside for over 5 years and now it's time for a change. I would like to wish them the best of luck and thank them for all they have done for me and many other promoters and performers in that time. A very rare venue in the way it's run and one that will be sorely missed.
Now!!! Let's give them a big send off. This will be a celebration as well as a sad time. Whatever happens we hope it ends with smiles.
Hase Waits, The Crazy Mushrooms, The Mark Robinson Experience, Beaming Porn Through Nuns, Mark Rowland, Dominic Hook, The Estuary Dwellers, Frisky Biscuit and Craig Vinnie Whitehead (Vinnie and the Stars).

Underground Railroad (Fr.), Honeytone Cody + Thee Piatcions (It.)
After their noisy 2007 demo collection 'Twisted Trees', Underground Railroad went to Seattle the following year to record their debut proper 'Sticks And Stones' with John Goodmanson (Bikini Kill, Death Cab For Cutie, Los Campesinos!, Hot Hot Heat). The latter is a great alternative rock album that would sit with the best to come from the US nineties collage scene. A years constant touring, including an awesome show in The Basement in York, then all went quiet.
In 2011 the band raised their head once more, and released the dark and sinister 'White Night Stand'. An album loosely based on the French trio's experience of living in London, recorded in London, produced by themselves and mixed by Paul Walton (Massive Attack, Bjork).
Indeed, as the songs' subject matter dictated, 'White Night Stand' is more of a London album than any born and bred capital-dwellers could have hoped to make, their outsider status offering them a detached insight into the city's inner workings. Raphael: "I was writing about all these dark bars in London, the weirdness of meeting new people and not understanding someone, or how they function. It's a night-time album, definitely."
There are moments of fitting intensity. Most notably 'Seagull Attack', the album's crescendo centrepiece, that clocks in at over nine minutes with its hypnotic repetitive guitar cascade. Then there's the distinctly Radiohead-esque 'Ginkgo Biloba', another album highlight.
Further inspiration across the album came from Twin Peaks and David Lynch – Marion naming 'The Black Widow', 'The Orchid's Curse', and 'Traces To Nowhere' after episodes of the show, and 'Yellow Suit' in reference to his 'Blue Velvet' film.
Dark, intense, melodic, exploratory… Underground Railroad have gone around the world then found what's most true to them back where they now call home. It's an intriguing place – we suggest you have a listen.
We have a rather bloody special support bill for you too. HONEYTONE CODY are a beast of a band weaving intricate, experimental and highly original guitar lines with danceable basslines, powerful percussion and heavenly female vocals. They're pretty hot right now, every show they've played recently has been great. These guys have just returned from a week long tour of Germany showcasing brilliant recent EP 'Witch Hunt'.
To make this a truly international affair, we also welcome THEE PIATCIONS, an Italian quartet with their their toes on the pedals and their heads in the clouds. We've not seen them before, but the record is a unique mix of British shoegaze and American trippiness.
'The homage to Ride in the sustained vocal harmonies is very apparent as an influence, but there’s a glaze of psychedelia too which makes for an interesting and diverse listen. But Ride aren’t the only influence here. Alongside the Jesus and Mary Chain, there’s hints of Darker My Love, Wooden Shjips and Film School. Those afore mentioned harmonies and softly understated vocals sit so comfortably with the textural distortion and feedback, which build upon and add some flesh to the subtle bones of the (perhaps too understated) drums and bass, combining beautifully for a luscious, dense sound, artfully constructed and beautifully arranged. High five for Italian shoegazing.'

Earlybird tickets just £5. Ticket prices will go up nearer the date so get yours early!
Redlight is a Bristol raised, London based artist navigating the unnamed airspace between house, bass and beyond. Having already crafted a handful of jet-propelled bangers which have won over fans and followers including Skream, Toddla T, Jack Beats, A Trak, Mark Ronson, Zinc and Annie Mac.
2010 saw Redlight's rapid rise with the release of two dance floor destroyers. The first, 'Stupid' on Digital Sound Boy featuring the vocals of Roses Gabor. The second 'What You Talking About!? on Chase & Status' More Than Alot imprint, which saw the return to form of Ms Dynamite with devastating effect !!!
In the last 12 months Redlight has released two more unground bangers via Digital Sound Boy in the shape of 'Source 16' & 'Progress' as well as selectively remixing some choice artists from Ceelo Green to Mavrick Sabre to Ms Dynamite as well as continuing to produce tracks for some of the most promising up and coming UK acts.
The Redlight sound is spreading fast with his unique DJ sets throughout the UK and Europe and with his bi-monthly Rinse FM show this ensures people are sitting up and paying attention the World over.

"Good guitar lines, decent drumming, and a solid main vocal accompany a well structured if not pioneering song structure. It’s grounded as much in today’s pop-punk/pop-rock/pretend hardcore bracket, a sound suitable to a bill featuring the likes of Deaf Havana." - Punktastic.com

An enchanting tale combining puppetry, humour and live music……
It’s winter again, Millie’s favourite time of year. But how will she react when the season that she has always loved becomes a winter without end? A strange encounter with Sage, the Wood Elf, teaches Millie that humans have stopped caring about the Earth and that the Winter Song which once heralded the end of winter can no longer be heard. Without the song the spring has no way of knowing that it is time to return to the Earth, so Millie sets off on a quest to find the song…..

Port Issac's Fisherman's Friends
English folk music has enjoyed a renaissance in the last decade, especially in the West Country. Now, after their success at the 2011 BBC Radio 2 Folk Award, these Shanty men of Port Isaac are out on the road to delight and enthral audiences with their voices in an incredibly rousing and joyful set of Shanties and Cornish folk songs. The authentic sound of the shanty can be heard loud and clear via the mighty, brawny chorale of The Fisherman’s Friends. Be prepared to have your ears blown clean off.
Between them, they are five baritones, two top tenors, two second tenors, and one bass it makes a fat sound, a full sound, a solid wall of sound.
The Fisherman's Friends from Port Isaac have delighted visitors and locals there for more than 15 years, with almost 300 live performances under their belts, a major album release and now these selective live dates.

The Stolen Embers
The Stolen Embers kick off with their first gig delivering two sets of their own music live at the Victoria Vaults - The Stolen Embers, a York based blues, rock, psyhe-mighty band founded on friendships and shared appreciation for jamming, writing and collecting too many old amplifiers and guitars that we will never fix. All is made possible thanks to the fuel of Gwyn's home made chocolate truffles, pots of earl grey tea and other more well known and inspirational additives. The songs are rooted in everyday inspirations from Cernan's last prints of lunar to Philippe's wire in the sky and are recorded purely off the cuff and left entirely naked and to hang in the buff, because for us that's what we sound like.

DEAD TO ME + the human project + river city ransom
For as great of a band as Dead To Me is, they’re so immersed in style and culture that they’ve always seemed almost as much like an art collective as a rock and roll outfit.
Drawing on such disparate sonic, visual and intellectual influences as Brit rock, graffiti, Slavic prison tattoos, Midwestern punk, reggae, Day of the Dead iconography, old school hip-hop and modern American History, Dead To Me’s current incarnation finds Ian and Chicken joining forces with Ken of Enemy You/Western Addiction fame and Sam from New Mexican Disaster Squad.
Come see ‘em live and watch Chicken piss off half the crowd then win them back. Watch Ken and Sam shred like they’ve been doing it together for fifteen years. And for ****’s sake, check out the drummer. God, he’s handsome. (it says here …!)

SETH LAKEMAN
Seth will be playing tracks from his previous studio albums plus some brand new songs from his album ‘Tales From The Barrel House’ which is out now. Recorded at Morwellham Quay in Devon, Seth has not only written, sung and played all the instruments on every track on the new album but he’s also recorded and mixed the whole album himself. Seth says he has enjoyed this recording project like no other. "I've been really keen for some time to get right back to the basics of ‘Kitty Jay'.." (the £300 kitchen-table album that shot him to fame and won him a Mercury Music Prize nomination back in 2005).
"To be blunt, this is the type of album I could never have done with a major label. I'm grateful for having worked in some of the best-equipped studios and with top producers, but with this record I've felt completely free to do my own thing for the first time in years.” In keeping with this independent spirit, ‘Tales from the Barrel House’ has been released through his own Honour Oak Records, and is only available to buy from Seth’s website as a strictly limited deluxe digipak with each copy individually numbered.
‘Tales From The Barrel House’ underlines Seth’s inate knack for writing both foot-stomping, sing-along songs and more tender, thoughtful ballads. His playing is often breathtaking and Seth's trademark, soaring vocals are at the forefront of this album, as beguiling and haunting as ever. Charismatic, full of passionate energy and giving voice to people from the past, "Tales from the Barrel House" will entrance and enthrall a growing army of present-day fans and, undoubtedly, will also be discovered by lovers of heartfelt music – discerning folk – of the future.

TV's over presents...SUBWAY SECT (feat. Vic Godard and Paul Cook) plus Sky Rocket Jack plus The Drastics
Emerging from the 100 Club punk scene of '76, Subway Sect debuted alongside The Clash and The Sex Pistols. Their garage sound and sense of melody set them apart from the usual run of the mill punk acts that joined the conveyer belt that year. In the 1980s Vic got together with musicians whose talents allowed him to experiment with Jazz, Swing and Motown.
"We Oppose all Rock and Roll" was the first of three successful releases on Overground Records and in 2010 the well received "We Come as Aliens" came out which Vic and The Sect have been promoting throughout 2011.
Original member Paul Myers has no rejoined Vic Godard in the band and during the 2010 dates the band have been joined on stage by Edwyn Collins and of late by original Pistol Paul Cook on drums. The band continue their "5 year tour" with a rare York appearance.

Faithfully reprising the catalogue, including acoustic, of probably the greatest rock band the world will ever see, this is a long show so early arrival is recommended. NICK LOWE
NICK LOWE began his musical career as a member of Brinsley Schwarz, during which time he wrote (What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding, a hit for Elvis Costello in 1979, and Cruel to Be Kind, a solo hit the same year.
After leaving Brinsley Schwarz in 1975, Lowe began playing in Rockpile with Dave Edmunds. The following year Lowe released So It Goes, the first single on Stiff Records where he was an in-house producer. Dr. Feelgood’s hit single Milk and Alcohol was co-penned by Lowe, which along with I Love The Sound of Breaking Glass, reach the Top 10 in 1978. He also produced The Damned's first single, New Rose, considered the first English punk single, as well as the group's debut album, Damned Damned Damned.
After the demise of Rockpile, Lowe toured for a period with his band Noise To Go and later with The Cowboy Outfit. In 1992, (What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding was covered by Curtis Stigers on the soundtrack album to The Bodyguard, an album that sold over 15 million copies.
A New York Daily News article quoted Lowe as saying his greatest fear in recent years was "sticking with what you did when you were famous… I didn't want to become one of those thinning-haired, jowly old geezers who still does the same shtick they did when they were young, slim and beautiful," he said. "That's revolting and rather tragic." Lowe's four most recent solo albums mine the wealth of American roots music, drawing on vintage country, soul and R&B to create an elegant mix of his own.
Lowe played Glastonbury 2011, performing a short solo set of Brinsley Schwarz tracks on The Spirit Of 71 stage, where they played back in 1971, before heading to the Acoustic Stage for a full band show. Nick’s NEW album The Old Magic will be released in September.

RSJ + SHADOWS LIE WITHIN + CAUSE OF DENIAL + BETRAYAL WITHIN THE RANKS
Now in their eighth year, RSJ have always been about one thing: Constructing heavy music and destroying any stage they're put on.
Since 2002, RSJ have released two EPs and two albums to flawless reviews from publications such as Metal Hammer, Kerrang!, Terrorizer and numerous e-zines.
Their last album "Gain to Nothing" (2007) continued this trend with yet more stunning reviews and contained a host of bonus material including a remix by Matt Wilcock of death metal giants Akercocke. The video for the "Deadbolt" was also aired on both Scuzz TV and MTV2’s Headbanger's Ball and The Riot.
RSJ have toured and gigged with a wide variety of scene luminaries such as Soilwork, Biohazard, Unearth, Funeral For A Friend and The Berzerker to name but a few. Along the way the band have proudly secured endorsements with ESP Guitars & Basses and Hughes & Kettner Amplification.

Club Integral Northern Branch presents:
Homeward Band THE WINDSORS + FLAMEPROOF MOTH + C-SIDERS + FALCO SUBBUTEO
After their last event 'Advent Channeller', which flew them in a DIY mothership cobbled together from analogue synths/shakers/outfits, they are changing the mood to an evening of bands you’d like to hear play in your stately home every night, if you happened to be the Earl of Bath (all with a twist then). Club Integral Northern Branch presents:
HOMEWARD BAND
Club Integral Northern Branch presents unclassified music. Every night tries to have a thread that connects the acts, but you just need to know that you won’t ever really know what to expect if you come, that’s the best bit about the whole enterprise and that's why you should definitely come. It's an attentive and mixed crowd who are interested in something different. Homeward Band brings together bands you would like to have play in your stately home every night if, perhaps, you were the Lord of Bath, so with a twist.
THE WINDSORS -
The Windsors rose from the ashes of the legendary KENNY PROCESS TEAM. The new group play intricate, driving instrumentals composed by Kevin Plummer with the band. +
C-SIDERS -
Bring a bucket and spade if it makes you feel better."I can hear the seagulls keening cry and taste the sand in my banana sandwiches" Kent Snow - The Wire +
FLAMEPROOF MOTH -
Flameproof has been dubbed “the John Butler Train of Dog Kennel Hill” by the gobsmacked interns of Grazia. Will Hodgkinson decribed him in The Guardian as “a tall, regal man with an upper lip so stiff it is incapable of movement. He performs songs that mostly consist of long imaginary arguments with people about where electricity comes from.” Artworld agitprop demigod Bob and Roberta Smith concurs: “This guy's a genius.” Point taken. +
FALCO SUBBUTEO -
Falco makes things up on the spot and was formed in 2007 in York by Val Persona and Gwilly Edmondez. Falco have played at lots of famous places (Café Oto and King's Place) have been on Late Junction and their online Clinical Archives albums have had over 10,000 downloads blah blah

Spamalot
And now for something completely different...
Audiences all around the world have been roaring with laughter since Monty Python's Spamalot, by Eric Idle and John Du Prez, won the Tony Award for Best Musical in 2005.
Spamalot tells the legendary tale of King Arthur and the knights of the Round Table and features a bevy (or possibly a brace) of beautiful show girls, witch burnings (Cancelled too expensive) not to mention cows, killer rabbits and French people. The show features the hilarious songs He Is Not Dead Yet, Knights Of The Round Table, Find Your Grail and of course the Nation's Favourite Comedy Song (Reader’s Digest Poll 2009) Always look on the bright side of life.
Don't miss your night with the Knights of The Round Table at the most infectiously funny musical of the millennium.

Joan Baez
Since she began her legendary residency at Boston's famed Club 47 and her debut at the 1959 Newport Folk Festival Joan Baez has remained a musical force of nature whose influence is incalculable - marching on the front line of the civil rights movement with Martin Luther King, singing on the first Amnesty International tour, standing alongside Nelson Mandela when the world celebrated his 90th birthday in London's Hyde Park.
Her earliest recordings fed a host of traditional ballads into the rock vernacular, before she unselfconsciously introduced Bob Dylan to the world in 1963 and focused aware¬ness on songwriters ranging from Woody Guthrie, Dylan, Phil Ochs, Richard Fariña, and Tim Hardin, to Kris Kristofferson and Mickey Newbury, to Dar Williams, Richard Shindell, Steve Earle and many more.

The Static Jacks + Little Triggers + Perk Culture + The Rumour
Since they formed in 2009, Westfield, New Jersey's the Static Jacks (lead vocalist Ian Devaney, guitarists Henry Kaye and Michael Sue-Poi, and drummer Nick Brennan) have earnestly burned their own path through indie rock's crowded field. Ignoring music's fickle trends, the Jacks have forged a unique blend of punk, garage, and soul sounds for a sonic punch to the gut and heart. Already supported big hitters such as Biffy Clyro and The Futureheads and many more in the US,and big things are set to follow here in the UK. Their debut album 'If You're Young' is to be released in the UK this February.

Rod Jones' day job is being the guitarist in Idlewild, the Scottish rock band fronted by Roddy Woomble who is currently exploring his folk side.
Idlewild were oft described as 'a flight of stairs falling down a flight of stairs' and Rod's solo outing (with band) is not unlike a return to Idlewild's rough and ready roots.
This is the rescheduled show from October 2011 when Rod's recurring broken bones problem forced him to cancel the entire tour.

Recorded at Gargleblast Studios with producer Andy Miller (Life Without Buildings, Mogwai, Sons and Daughters), 'Canines' is a visceral pop record bristling with urgency, melody, and danger, and is the sound of a band fully in their stride. Lead singer and wordsmith Helen King from the band described the new album:
'We wrote Canines between January and August this year in a long series of slightly fevered evenings ensconced in the shed at the bottom of Bob's garden. It's a pop record about bones and skin and cities and compulsions and love and confusion. It's a bit strange, but you can dance to some of it, and it makes a particular kind of sense to us, which feels very exciting.'
'Canines' follows up 2009’s self-titled debut album, and 2010’s 'Life! Death! Prizes!', both of which were mixed by legendary producer (and Morrissey drummer) Woodie Taylor, fresh from his success with Love Is All and Comet Gain. Shrag’s first album was met with critical acclaim from, amongst others, Uncut, Pitchfork, the Sunday Times, and Artrocker. 'Life! Death! Prizes!' was equally as acclaimed as its predecessor, garnering wide-spread praise from many including Pitchfork (again), Drowned in Sound, The Quietus, and All Music Guide, who praised "... the kind of songs you want to hear playing loud all day and then quietly at night, a thrillingly romantic, bleedingly emotional album for people who want some bite in their pop."
Other highlights have included performing in New York at the CMJ Music Marathon, a scene stealing performance at Indietracks Festival, three sessions for BBC6’s Marc Riley, and a BBC Radio One session recorded at London’s prestigious Maida Vale Studios.
Renowned for the energy and vitality of their live shows, Shrag have supported The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, The Thermals and The Cribs in the UK. They will set out on a joint-headline UK tour in February with Tunabunny who share their reputation for compelling live performances. Tunabunny have just released their arrestingly exciting second LP Minima Moralia on Happyhappybirthdaytome Records. To commemorate this union and the unmissable series of shows, the bands will be releasing a limited edition split 7” on February 20th that will bear the first fruits of 'Canines'. +
Tunabunny -
Tunabunny is, for now, less of a criminal element that it used to be. On 2010’s debut album (Happy Happy Birthday To Me Recordings), you had to listen closely to hear the Blondie, to hear the Abba, to hear the pop. Some people just heard noise. Some people thought it was glorious. The album received rave reviews in some unexpected places, including Everett True in Australia (‘this music makes me deliriously happy’) and a top-5 end of year placing on the BBC’s website and led to a successful East Coast USA tour in Spring 2012 a prestiged slot at Athens Popfest supporting Throwing Muses. Now comes ‘(Song For My) Solar Sister,’ the advance single for Minima Moralia, due out in August 2012. This year’s Tunabunny marks a shift from noise towards melody, from chaos towards structure, from indifference towards rapture, It signals a Tunabunny more pop, yet more intense; more accessible, yet more desperate; more comforting, and yet more uncomfortable.
'The greatest band from Athens, Georgia since Pylon; Tunabunny's half-songs are fuller than most songs around for the simple reason that they haven't had the spirit and imagination and inspiration bashed and bullied out of them.” (Everett True BBC)
